What is the Kit View

Where the other views compare kits, the Kit View shows particular information about individual kits. Open the Kit View, in the right side bar, by clicking on a kit number or node in any of the other DNA Views. The Kit view displays:

1. Information attached to the kit when you imported it such as contact information for the kit owner, haplo group, type and gender. 

2. Information you add to the file, such as notes, matches to someone in your tree. 

3. Data generated from what you have added such as color coding, a navigational fan chart (click on a node in the fan chart to see profile information from your tree),  and a chromosome browser.

4. And the kit owner's MiniTree if you have uploaded it.

How to open the Kit View

To open the Kit View edit window, first click on a kit number or node in any view. The kit will appear in the Kit View in the right side bar. Click on the kit number to open the Kit View.  

How to add information/edit the Kit View

Open the Kit View by clicking on a kit number or a node in any of the views. Click on the Kit Number in the Kit View. Click on the pencil icon in the upper right corner of the Kit View. 

The edit window of the Kit View has 4 tabs: details, notes, match and tree.

1. The basics tab is where you record the kit owner's contact information and other basic information about the kit.
2. Notes. The notes tab is where you record notes.
3. Match. The match tab shows where you match a kit to "someone in my tree," "descendant of a couple in my tree," or mark it "not a match," or "unknown."
4. Tree. This is where you upload a MiniTree associated with this kit from.

How to copy and paste a minitree in the Kit view

1. To copy a minitree from GEDMatch, Start by clicking on the word GED in the spreadsheet on GEDMatch.com.


2. On the next screen, click on the email link.

3. On the next screen, click on "pedigree."

4. On the next screen, control-A, control-C for PC users, or command-A, command-C for mac users.

5. Return to your AncesTREES List view. 1) Click on the appropriate Kit number to open the Kit View window. 2) Then, click on the pencil icon to edit the Kit View.
 


6. Now, click on the Tree tab. Click inside the gray instruction box and control-V for PC users or command-V for Mac users. 
7. This is what the minitree will look like.

Color Coded Fan Chart

The Kit View's fan chart performs two functions. First, it shows you which ancestor or line the kit is matched to. Second, clicking on the colored nodes in the fan chart will open a window to that person in your tree. 

How do I display multiple kits in the Kit View?

From the List or Triangulation View:

Click and control-click (for PC users) or click and command-click (for Mac users) on the kits to show their details in the Kit View in the right side bar.

From the Segment View:

When you click on a node in the Segment View, the Kit View will list a group of matching kits. Click on the kit number to expand any kit. You can expand all the kits in the Kit View.

How do I open clusters in Kit View from the Triangulation View?

Hold down the shift key (not the command or control key) while dragging the mouse over the selected cluster. A gray box will mark the area. When you let up on the mouse, all kits in the area you dragged over will appear in the Kit View.
